Public History Engagement
UW-Madison Public History Project Volunteer 2021.In 2021 I did some volunteer work for the UW-Madison's Public History Project. This project seeks to discover the various incidences and patterns of racism on campus throughout its history and the groups and individuals impacted. Additionally, the aim is to highlight accomplishments of individuals and groups on campus that because of discrimination have gone unrecognized. Then-Chancellor Rebecca Blank commissioned the project; Kacie Lucchini Butcher began directing the project in 2019 and works with student researchers who are delving into university and state archives to trace this history. You can follow the trajectory of the work by reading the Project's blog.
In my role as a volunteer librarian, I helped develop the format for a research guide template that student project researchers could employ to identify information resources they found and use on the different topics they are researching and writing about. These research guides will include information about authors and creators, titles, and call numbers for published materials, and collection titles, creators, and box and folder information for unpublished, archival collections. These research guides will eventually be available on the Public History Project website. |
